Green Protein Power Smoothie
Oh, how much I love smoothies. They make a great breakfast or snack anytime of the day and help you refuel after a hard workout. My perfect smoothie includes antioxidants, healthy fats, protein and lots of other nutrients.
Green smoothies are like finely pureed magic potions. They consist of fruit, powerful leafy greens and clean water or milk (I use almond or hemp milk). The fruit give the smoothie the pleasantly sweet taste and the greens give the beautiful green color. I remember how my mom used to make Kale stew when I was growing up in Germany. It wasn't the most popular dish around us kids. Mostly because of its intense smell and bitter taste.
But these days Kale, with its exceptional nutrient and vitamin richness, has become one of my favorite ingredients in a smoothie. I actually love the taste and its cancer preventative benefits have been linked to its unusual concentration of two types of antioxidants - carotenoids and flavonoids.
Avocado is full of healthy fats, vitamin K, C, B5 & E, folate and potassium.
Green Grapes contain powerful antioxidants, fiber and potassium.
Hemp seeds are rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, high in protein, fiber and amino acids.
Almond milk provides vitamin E and riboflavin.
This smoothie is so thick, you can almost eat it with a spoon- enjoy!
Ingredients*:
1 cup (150g) green grapes
1 1/2 cups (chopped 180g) kale
1/2 avocado
2 tablespoons shelled hemp seeds
1 1/2 cups (12oz/365ml) almond milk
optional 2 tablespoons plant based protein of your choice.
*Try using only fresh and organic ingredients!
Directions:
In a blender, combine all of the ingredients and blend on high speed for 50 seconds.
Pour into a tall glass.
