My essential yoga & mindfulness books
I always loved to read.
Currently I have been busy reading Full Catastrophe living by Jon Kabat-Zinn as preparation work for my MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) teacher training which I will start soon.
Some time ago I have been asked about the books I love the most. That’s a subject I was thinking about for a bit. A book could be a lot to me. It could be a place to shut out the world and just find peace with myself, such as Siddharta from Hermann Hesse or The untethered soul: The journey beyond yourself by Michael A. Singer. Places, to get to know the own soul a bit better.
These are more spiritual books about personal development. Also, I remember back to what I read when I was about 20 and started my career as model. The best example for that is The four agreements by Miguel Ruiz. Sitting in a model apartment, far away from home, it was the best recommendation I ever received to save me from feeling homesick. Back in 2015 I was doing my 200 hr YTT in LA. We got a list of books that we had to read before, in order to prepare ourselves for the job. My favorite of that list is still Light on Yoga: The bible of modern Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar. I would recommend that to any person that loves Yoga the same way I do.
As you can see there is not the one and only favorite book I have or that I can recommend. As I am interested in many subjects, such as the connection of body and mind, internal work, self improvement and more, I have a couple of favorites. If you are interested in those subjects as well I would love to get more recommendations. There is never enough of reading good books.
My list of recommendations:
Sally Kemton: Awakening Shakti
Deepak Chopra: The Healing Self
Hermann Hesse : Siddharta
B.K.S. Iyengar : Light on Yoga
Miguel Ruiz : The four agreements
Michael A. Singer: The untethered soul: The journey beyond yourself
Jon Kabat - Zinn: Full Catastrophe Living
